Question #2

#3: The advertisement that I believe is a good example of appealing to ones fear would have to be the anti drug commercials. Within each one of these commercials it shows a small clip of how teens are not in control of their own actions when they are under the influence of drugs. It also shows that teens are not able to think for themselves while under the influence and also how other people can in a way control you and have you do or say things you wouldn’t normally do when you are not under the influence. This I believe shows appealing to the viewers fear by telling them that if they choose to do drugs, they will not be in control of their lives. To me, I find me not being in control of my actions a scary thought and therefore would have to say that seeing this commercial would have a great appeal to my sense of fear.

  1. I agree with you that those advertisements that go against drugs are a good example of the appeal to fear. Those commercials use the fear of losing control over one’s actions because of using drugs. These anti-drug commercials tell people that they will not be able to think for themselves and end up being controlled by others. Those “Above the Influence” commercials really make use of the appeal to fear. I agree that not being in control of my own actions is scary. I must admit that these commercials that use appeals to fear really get to me and they make me want to stay away from drugs.

  2. hey i totally agree with what you said about the appeal to fear. i have that same problem. when i was younger, ppl always told me that smoking is bad for you and that smokers eventually get yellow teeth and hairy tongues. those comments might not have been true, but i still believed them and stayed away from cigarettes. i'm thankful i have, because it IS very bad for one's health, but that just shows how appeal to fear is actually quite a successful way of discouraging someone of doing something they shouldnt be doing. overall, great job on this post, and keep up the great work! =)
